'HYPOTHESIS*' EP (2010)

I began composing and recording the music on 'HYPOTHESIS*' EP around the year 2010 but unfortunately ended up shelving the project when my studies toward my Environmental Science degree became more intense. I was working full-time and studying part-time in the evenings and spending a lot of time around university campuses in London. Being surrounded by the infrastructure and systems of academia informed the style of music I started composing.

I took inspiration from the brutalist architecture around me and also that of my childhood - my father worked at Leeds University and I often would spend time going to his office. The cover art for the EP is actually a photograph of Leeds University, taken by Craig Atkinson of Cafe Royal Books.

I invited some wonderful jazz musicians from the London jazz improv scene to join me in recording this collection of tracks including Pharoah Russell, Karl Rasheed-Abel, Trevor Joseph and Max Grunhard. Many have gone on to have flourishing session and solo careers.

I only returned to complete the recordings and release them during lockdown in 2020.
